pLaYinG CatCH-up!

Well Goodness where do we even start!? I realize that trying to update the world wide web on the past 9 months or so would be quite overwhelming. I mostly wanted to do this blog as a fun way to keep record of the ramblings of the Rytting fam, more for myself than anything but I love readers and I love comments. :) Rather than try and overload our sweet blog with 9 months of life I'm posting some of the most memorable and important events. As for a current status update both Ryttings are in classes, though Mckay has a full plate with 15 credits while I am taking a measly 3 credits on campus, 4 credits independent study. Mckay is in his junior year of the Chemical Engineering program, the year of the internship.... Most if not all companies prefer Juniors for their interns so hopefully next summer we'll be off on a fun internship adventure! I am entering what is hopefully my second to last semester. I have 4 classes left till I am eligible to graduate which have to be spread out over two semesters, so hopefully all will go as planned and I will be a college graduate in a short 8 months! I love what I've learned and school and will keep learning when I leave, it will just be a lot cheaper :).

So thats where we are right now...enter the world of homework.... but we have had such an amazing summer and played a lot. I'm sad to say goodbye to summer, it has been so good to us. But oh how much i LOVE the fall! Something about this season always reminds me about my sweet Paris, and the fun few months I spent there. I love the start of school and football, the lazy drives up the canyon, cozy sweaters and the fun holidays that lay ahead. But for the moment I'm going to reminisce on our wonderful adventures of the summer.

First up: Memorial Day

This year Memorial Day was particulary special. We lost both of my sweet grandpas this year and so Memorial Day was spent remembering them. I was blessed with such amazing grandpas who taught me so much. Whenever I get discouraged about school and other things I think of my grandpas and how proud they would be of me finishing. I miss them, they were such good examples to me, and they loved their families more than anything.

Thats enough for now I suppose, this post is getting a little long. Next up, our adventures in La Jolla, Lubbock and Kauai! stay tuned!

one month later...

November was super busy but not especially eventful, so we havent gotten around to posting anything lately, but we figured with thanksgiving behind us and christmas upon us, we should give an update. school is thankfully almost over for the semester. we are both going crazy trying to get everything finished before classes end. emily is working on a few papers and i have two more midterms to study for before finals (what are my teachers thinking?).

work is becoming more eventful for me. for those of you who dont know, i am working in the research and development division of a company called Cosmas, inc. its a company that my chemistry professor from last year started a little bit ago, and a little bit after spring semester he asked if i would work for him. i took the job with no hesitation and left the hospital as soon as i finished up my remaining shifts. since then i have been working on making nanoparticles (if you need an explanation you'll have to call or email me because it is too long for the blog!) and i have loved it so far. right now we are in the process of trying to secure some money for next year, and so lately i have been writing a lot of papers to show important people with bags of money that what we do is cool and they should pay us do it some more. i am hoping that eventually some of the stuff i write will make it into a journal or something. if it does, i will send a copy to everyone who wants one.

thanksgiving weekend was big for us. we obviously celebrated thanksgiving and ate lots of food and played lots of xbox (well, i did anyway). we also got some shopping done on friday including our christmas tree. we put it up saturday night, and then sunday we lit and decorated it. we did most of our christmas decorating sunday. now that i think of it, we probably should put some pictures of that on the blog. ill work on that. no promises, though.

you all may have noticed at the bottom of the screen that my two beloved teams are not having great years. your heartfelt condolences are welcome and appreciated. i will also accept empathy from any fans of the san diego chargers, detroit lions, memphis grizzlies or milwaukee bucks, because you know all too well what i am going through.

maybe ill go look for our camera now

Welcome to November! It's finally starting to snow in the mountains, about which I couldn't be happier, and snowboarding season is just around the corner. We spent Halloween at Emily's parents' house in Alpine and had a great time carving pumpkins, watching Young Frankenstein, and playing Halo 3. I started playing Gears of War (seriously, that is. I have leisurely played it before but never gotten into it until now) for the first time and am addicted to it. It's so hard to do homework when I want so badly to play that amazing game. Here are a few snapshots of our pumpkins. I think you'll all agree my pumpkin is more creative.

So now its my turn to post :) I'm so proud of Mckay for being pro-active and initiating the first post while i got some much needed sleep time. I think he planned it because he knew he would never get away with putting espn stuff on our blog unless I was nearly unconscious. It's fine though, I can give up having a girly blog if it means my hubby will participate! I think we picked a bad time to start our blog, currently our lives consist of school, work, homework, and some of the highly addictive series on Fall tv (watch Chuck Mondays @7 on NBC!). But I'm afraid our lives aren't too exciting right now. As for a Rytting family update: Me and Mckay are both full time students at BYU. I have finally found my calling at BYU as a Humanities major and i LOVE it! (it only took me 4 years to find out) So after this semester i will have 9 classes left. Mckay is majoring in Chemical Engineering and has lately applied for some internships, we haven't heard anything yet so keep your fingers crossed! We are excited for all the possibilities and opportunities in our future. So our schooling keeps us pretty occupied.

This weekend has been particularly wonderful...Friday night consisted of a Philosophy test (scary!) and an unanticipated bed time of 9:30. Saturday we had the opportunity to go through the temple with my cousin who was going through for the first time. He will be leaving on his mission to Everett, Washington mid November. Even though we had to be in the chapel at 8:30 am it was such a blessing for us to be there and to show our support and love for Jordan. After the temple we rushed to the BYU game against UNLV. We were really excited to go and watch a pretty competitive and intense game! We have really enjoyed going to the BYU games this season but I'll be honest we are not the model fans. We really stand out as some of the only fans in the student section who dont stand up, fists pumping every single time they play the fight song, which seems like every 5 minutes. We love our team and are so happy when they win, we'll let the crazy kids sitting next to us scream themselves hoarse! All in all it was a great weekend, full of relaxing and having a good time together.

First Post!

Emily has worked so hard on this blog, but she is asleep and I am going to go ahead and make the first post while she's not looking! We are new to the blogosphere and so I am still trying to figure out how to do everything, but it looks pretty exciting so far. In the coming weeks we will continue to fine-tune our page so that it is exactly how we want it. We'll also try to take a few pictures soon so that those of you who have not seen us lately (or ever) know what we look like now. It changes so much, especially for me, that if you havent seen us in a few months you may have missed a lot. For instance, in the last 6 months, I have had 5-inch long hair, a normal cut, then a shaved head, then a normal cut again once that grew out. During this time there was also the beard, the moustache, the Franz Josef, and the clean shave now that I am in school. Some of you have missed out, but we'll try to get you up to speed. Until then, stay classy.
